ANR-Lab Seminar 'Interethnic Relations in Russian Schools: Comparison of Classes with Different Proportions of Ethnic Minorities'
On January 20 at 15:00, laboratory intern Polina Ermolaeva will present a report on the topic 'Interethnic relations in Russian schools: comparison of classes with different proportions of ethnic minorities.'
Interethnic relations play an important role in overcoming social differences and reducing ethnic segregation, especially in the school environment. The influence of ethnicity on the preference for making friends with peers of the same ethnicity in a class may vary depending on its ethnic composition. In her work, which took 3rd place in the research competition, Polina Ermolaeva studied how the ethnic composition of a class, measured by the proportion of students from ethnic minorities in it, is associated with the ethnic homophily of students from the ethnic majority and minority in schools in Novosibirsk and St. Petersburg. Polina will talk about the results of her work at the seminar.
Seminar language: Russian.
