14th Summer School 'Methods and tools for social network analysis'

On July 4-8, the 14th Summer School of the International Laboratory for Applied Network Research “Methods and tools for social network analysis” will take place.


Anuška Ferligoj and Vladimir Batagelj, scientific advisors of the Laboratory, Daria Maltseva, Head of the Laboratory, Irina Pavlova, Deputy Head of the Laboratory, and Ivan Klimov, Academic Supervisor of the Master’s Programme 'Applied Statistics with Network Analysis,' will make a welcoming speech.

The theme of the summer school includes the following areas:
  • theory and methodology of advanced network analysis;
  • basics of work in programmes for network analysis (Pajek, Gephi, VOSviewer, R);
  • network analysis of text data;
  • applied projects with network analysis methods;
  • qualitative network analysis.

Lectures and master classes of the school will be conducted by ANR-Lab staff, as well as guest lecturer Marjan Cugmas from the University of Ljubljana.

  • Social Network Data Web-Scraping: VK Api (Lika Kapustina)
  • Theoretical methodological basement of qualitative social network analysis (Aryuna Kim)
  • Qualitative network analysis in practice: Study of 12-step communities in Moscow (Alexander Pakhomov)

Summer School ProgrammeThere will also be two internal sessions for the laboratory staff on the implementation of the 2023 scientific project "Theoretical and methodological innovations in network analysis: new tools for making managerial decisions".

The summer school is aimed at:

  1. Popularization of knowledge in the field of network analysis and promotion of this methodology as a scientific direction among a wide audience of listeners,
  2. Professional development of employees, incl. new research trainees and laboratory interns in the field of methodology, methods and tools of network analysis
  3. Creation of an internal control point for assembling a team for the exchange of expertise and discussion of the results obtained on a scientific project,
  4. Promotion of applied research projects in the field of network analysis and their presentation to a wide audience,
  5. Promotion of the university and the laboratory as a center of expertise in the field of network analysis and promotion of the university.
