ANR-lab seminar 'Feeling safe in the city: methodological aspects of measurement'

Event ended

On Monday, November 27th, at 15:00 laboratory seminar is held where Junior research fellow Tamara Shcheglova is presenting on topic of her dissertation focusing on methodological aspects of rhe work.

The problem of urban security has been attracting the attention of social scientists for many years, since it affects the psychosocial state of individuals and society. In russian and foreign practice, when discussing issues of creating a safe urban environment, objective factors are noted and studied, first of all: ecology, quality of the urban environment, crime rate, etc. However, subjective factors related to the individual and social characteristics of citizens, including their social status, emotions, social circle, information field in which they are located, etc. Most often, such factors can be taken into account in studies with a qualitative methodology. At the same time, to compare different urban spaces and map them, an element of quantitative measurement is needed. The methodological question arises, how to quantify emotions and feelings associated with specific places in the city? This study is aimed at exploring the potential of such measurements, including social media data and using network methodology.
