ANR-Lab Seminar "Network Analysis in Political Science"

Event ended

Dear Colleagues! We invite you to a new session of the regular scientific seminar of the Laboratory for Applied Network Research. On March 4 at 15:00 (Moscow time), Artem Maltsev, a lecturer at the School of Politics and Governance (Faculty of Social Sciences, HSE), will talk about how network analysis can be used in political science.

Our discussion will be devoted to the prospects and possibilities of modern approaches to the application of network analysis in political science and the theory of international relations. During the seminar, a brief excursion into the history of the development of social network analysis over the past 20 years will be presented in the context of the study of political processes in various fields. In particular, we will examine the evolution of network process theories in international relations theory, policy theory, and legislative studies. Special attention will be devoted to practical examples of political networks presented in the form of “multilayer”, “multi-level” and “multipartite” graphs. From a methodological point of view, the seminar will present a retrospective of the evolution of network research from descriptive to inferential (statistical) analysis of political networks, and will also consider the opportunities that the latest methods of random graphs and stochastic actor-oriented models provide for explaining dynamic processes in politics and international relations

Language of the Seminar: English.
