ANR-Lab Open Seminar "Is it Still Possible to Build Clusters on Factors, and if so, how?"

Event ended

Dear Colleagues! We invite you to an open seminar of the laboratory, which will be held under the guidance of one of the leading Russian experts in the field of modeling socio-economic processes - Efim Borisovich Galitsky, Ph.D., Associate Professor of the HSE Department of Marketing and Head of the Data Analysis Laboratory of the Public Opinion Foundation. The seminar will take place on May 13 at 15:00 (Moscow time)

The seminar will be devoted to a discussion of the “eternal problem” that arises in applied sociological and marketing research - cluster analysis of data obtained using factor analysis (principal component method). Despite the fact that this approach to segmentation is often used by researchers, the construction of “clusters on factors” can be associated with fundamental methodological problems. The results obtained from such analysis may be completely unsuitable for interpretation and making informed decisions. With the help of Efim Borisovich, we will understand in detail what is behind “clusters on factors”, what advantages and disadvantages this strategy has, and how “logical” mistakes can be avoided when working with data in this way.

Language of the Seminar: Russian.
