ANR-Lab Seminar "Harrison White: from theory to method"

Event ended

On September 23 at 15:00, invited speaker of the laboratory Daniil Kovalev present a report "Harrison White: from theory to method".

Daniil Kovalev, a Master's student at the HSE Faculty of Sociology, will present a study dedicated to Harrison White (1930-2024), one of the most influential figures in social network analysis.

Each of White's contributions to the study of various aspects of the social world became a revolution that changed ideas about the past, present, and future of not only network analysis, but sociology as a whole. At the seminar, we will discuss White's key ideas regarding categorical networks, structural equivalence, and the theoretical project outlined in his work "Identity and Control." In addition, using semantic network analysis and stochastic block modeling, we will consider the dynamics of theoretical and methodological provisions in the works of culturally oriented network researchers developing the ideas of White's theoretical project.

The language of the seminar is Russian.
