Position of Research Fellow in the ANR-Lab (Russian Postdoc Program)

Project goal: Identification and explanation of the relationships between network structures of formal and informal institutions (using the example of individual social groups, collectives, organizations, and larger systems) and the nature of social integration in modern Russia using the methodology of network analysis.

Tasks within the project:

• Forming a working group of laboratory members and students based on the project's implementation under the supervision of a postdoc, sharing research experiences;
• Reviewing and summarizing current research, preparing a literature review on the project's topic;
• Reviewing current methods in network analysis related to the project's topic, participating in the development of research methodology;
• Searching for, collecting, and processing necessary data, preparing a description of the data and the results of its initial analysis;
• Analyzing data using statistical and network analysis methods;
• Describing results in scientific publications and reports, presenting research findings;
• Expanding the laboratory's research areas and contributing to the field of network analysis and network science.

Results:

• A working group on the project topic was created (at least 2 lab members/students, supervised by a postdoc);
• A literature review on the project topic was prepared;
• Research methodology was developed;
• The necessary data were collected, their description and initial analysis were prepared;
• Data analysis was conducted using statistical and network analysis methods;
• Scientific publications with laboratory affiliation were prepared – the status "accepted for publication" or "published" (at least 2, where 1 is in HSE List A journals), and a report was prepared;
• Research results were presented at laboratory scientific seminars (at least 2) and conferences (at least 1);
• Based on the project results, recommendations were prepared for registering intellectual property base.

Current research projects of the department:

This project is part of the larger project "The Diversity of Forms, Effects, and Barriers to Integration of Contemporary Russian Society in Synchronic and Diachronic Dimensions," implemented by the Laboratory from 2025-2027 in collaboration with three research departments of the National Research University Higher School of Economics (project manager: N.A. Nartova, laboratory supervisor: D.V. Maltseva). The current project provides the substantive focus for the project being implemented by the postdoc. Currently, the postdoc's supervisor, D.V. Maltseva, has received a grant from the Russian Science Foundation for the topic "Ego-Network Metrics of Social Capital as Predictors of Status Asymmetries and Subjective Well-Being in Russians: Methodology Development and Testing" (implementation period: 2026-2027).

Co-financing of postdoc salaries from the department:

Co-financing is possible through the postdoc's participation in the department's educational program "Data Analytics and Applied Statistics."

Planned educational workload for the postdoc (if any):

The postdoc is expected to participate in the English-language master's programme "Data Analytics and Applied Statistics," as well as in providing academic supervision and consulting to master's students and department members.

Candidate Requirements:

• Russian citizenship.
• Up to 39 years of age.
• Academic degree (PhD, successful defense of a PhD dissertation).
• Degree in socioeconomic and technical fields (social, mathematical, computer science).
• Proficiency in quantitative data analysis methods (exploratory, cluster, and regression analysis, etc.), knowledge of and work with at least one data analysis program (R, Python, etc.).
• Proficiency in network analysis methodology (Social network analysis / Network science) (calculating key metrics, working with different types of networks, identifying communities, etc.).
• Knowledge of and work with at least one network analysis program (R, Python, Pajek, Gephi, UCINET, etc.).
• Proficiency in English for fluent scientific and educational communication (oral and written).
• Active participation in the department's scientific events.

Additional Requirements: 

• Proficiency in advanced quantitative analysis methods (multilevel modeling, structural equation modeling, cluster and regression analysis, time series analysis, etc.) is not required, but is a plus.
• Proficiency in advanced network analysis methods (temporal analysis, network data clustering, ERGM, tERGM, SAOM network modeling, etc.) is not required, but is a plus.
