Network approach in sociology

This project area is associated with the study of the theoretical and methodological foundations of social network analysis in social sciences, and, in particular, in sociology. As part of her dissertation research, Daria Maltseva compared three areas within the network approach in sociology – social network analysis, relational sociology and actor-network theory – and showed autonomy and a specific place of each direction in the structure of sociological knowledge. Network approach should not be considered as a monolithic theoretical unit, combining various directions under the unifying names of “network theory” or “network paradigm”.

Further developments in the field of social network analysis methodology concerned the strategy of mixed methods, the theoretical and empirical developments of which are carried out by Daria Maltseva and Stanislav Moiseev. Currently, the study of a qualitative methodological strategy in network analysis is becoming increasingly relevant, which is the subject of study in the PhD thesis of Aryuna Radnaeva.
