Behind shoulders is another business seminar with a guest!
On October 28, an open master class, "News media data collection and open data APIs," was held with Maria Grebenshchikova. Our students continue to share their emotions about regular meetings with business experts!
At the last seminar, Maria Grebenshchikova talked about news media, shared the secrets of persuasion and manipulation technologies, and showed how Python is used to obtain open data.
"At the master class, Maria shared why it is so important for a business to develop an understanding of the strengths of news API. First of all, we focused on motivation. Why is the media so important for business? Mass media has a strong impact on beliefs. Beliefs can be targeted at voters, investors, and consumers. Partisan and influential media are particularly decisive. Newsmakers inform their subscribers about certain products using text analysis and face recognition techniques. Unlike social networks, content is not personalized, i.e., the media works per the audience's beliefs. IT consultants use this data set, investors, data scientists in IB and consulting, and business analysts working with go-to-market strategy, competitors, and consumer analysis. Maria showed what API queries could be used to collect news media data, simple examples with the Guardian's help. In the last part of the master class, we took apart the case of FoodTech startups. The task was to determine how the media cover GMOs, what arguments are given in positive and negative articles, and what words are found in them most often. At the end of the workshop, I had a complete understanding of how the API works, understood how to collect data using API queries, and perform basic text analysis" (Anna Borisyuk, freshman of MASNA).
