Daria Maltseva’s business trip to the University of Ljubljana

In December, ANR-Lab Head Daria Maltseva visited the Center for Methodology and Social Informatics of the University of Ljubljana, where she met with the laboratory supervisors, exchanged experience with foreign colleagues, and also agreed on future cooperation in the field of scientific and educational activities.

Daria Maltseva’s business trip to the University of Ljubljana

During the business trip, Daria spoke at the 1331st scientific “Wednesday Seminar”, which has been held at the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics of the University of Ljubljana for over 30 years, with the topic “Structure and patterns of collaboration in the scientific community: the case of Russian science”. In her report, Daria presented the results of a study on collaboration networks of Russian sociologists, implemented under a grant from the Russian Science Foundation, as well as a project to study scientific disciplines in the Russian Federation based on data from Web of Science, implemented jointly with a colleague from a foreign university. The workshop participants gave valuable advice on how to continue research and possible areas for improvement.

In addition to meeting with the laboratory supervisors Anuška Ferligoj and Vladimir Batagelj, during the business trip Daria met with the MASNA program teachers Marjan Cugmas, Luca Kronegger, Janez Demšar, Nada Lavrač and other colleagues of the University of Ljubljana. Professor Nada Lavrač, Scientific Advisor of the Department of Knowledge Technologies at the Jožef Stefan Institute, donated unique copies of books on data mining to the laboratory library, including Data mining and decision support: Integration and collaboration and Artificial Intelligence in Medicine

Comment by Daria Maltseva

Almost 3 years have passed since my last internship at the Center for Social Informatics and Methodology of the Faculty of Social Sciences of the University of Ljubljana: at first I could not return to Slovenia due to the pandemic, then due to the birth of my son. Therefore, of course, it was very pleasant to return to this small cozy European capital. But first of all, Ljubljana for me is people, our colleagues, many of whom I can warmly call my friends.

Naturally, during the business trip we saw each other a lot and worked with our supervisors Anuška Ferligoj and Vladimir Batagelj. I was able to speak at a seminar with Prof. Batagelj and tell him about current research conducted in the laboratory. We met with members of the Faculty of Social Sciences Marjan Cugmas, Luca Kronegger, Gregor Petric, Tanya Kamin, Damjan Škulj, as well as Janez Demšar from the Faculty of Computer Science of the University of Ljubljana and Anja Žnidaršić from the Faculty of Organizational Sciences of the University of Maribor. Professor Nada Lavrač gave me a tour of the Knowledge Technology Department of the Jožef Stefan Institute and introduced me to a small robot that lives in their unit. Many of our colleagues are connected with us by teaching in the program “Applied Statistics with Network Analysis” and have come to us more than once to participate in our scientific and educational events. Maintaining communication and building partnerships with colleagues is very important to us at this time.

In general, the working trip brought a lot of warm and positive emotions! I hope that in September 2023 we will be able to travel to Slovenia with an expanded staff of the laboratory – the EUSN 2023 conference of European Network Researchers will be held at the University of Ljubljana.
