ANR-Lab research assistants successfully defended their Undergraduate theses

The research assistants of the laboratory defended the final qualifying works (theses) for the Bachelor of the educational programs "Political Science" (Lika Kapustina) and "Sociology" (Arsen Khabibullin, Daniil Khomchenko, Vasilisa Vashchenko and Anna Pishchikova). We congratulate our research assistantss and decided to share some information about their works.

Lika Kapustina, 'The influence of the gender of the accused and judges on the decision on guilt, type and degree of punishment in cases of protest actions in Russia'
Lika, in a team with Sofia Pedchenko, carried out work on the independent collection, cleaning and analysis of the array of judicial data of the Moscow City Court. As a result, it turned out that the gender of the accused does not affect the decision; but the gender of the judge, on the contrary – on average, female judges make milder decisions. The work is written in English.

Arsen Khabibullin, 'Comparison of algorithms for constructing classification trees by the example of determining factors of attitude towards migrants'
Arsen defended a methodological study that was based on comparing the capabilities and limitations of classical and modern classification tree algorithms. In comparing these groups of algorithms, Arsen also solved problems using data from the 8th ESS wave on attitudes towards migrants.

Daniel Khomchenko, 'Illegal archaeology: the variability of practices from hobby to market'
Daniel researched the community and practices of amateur archaeologists, 'black diggers', who are an important part of the antique lovers market, albeit illegal. He was the first to study how this activity works, how its participants are segmented, what is the structure of their community and how new members are recruited, using the quantitative paradigm of sociological research.
