The forum was organized by the Vladimir Potanin Charitable Foundation with the support of the Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation. The traditional focus of this annual platform is the discussion of trends, pains and challenges in the management of endowments in Russia.

One of the forum sessions was organized by Veronika Misyutina (SKOLKOVO School of Management) and Ivan Klimov (HSE International Laboratory for Applied Network Research). It discussed the materials of the study 'Who is a Russian philanthropist?' The discussion focused on possible ways of developing charity, the attitudes of wealthy people and their requests for the professional philanthropy sector. The authors noted a trend: there is a growing interest in studying local practices, country traditions, and the specifics of philanthropy development in different countries and cultures. The study, which is being conducted at the initiative of the Potanin Foundation's Philanthropy Development Center, should systematize the experience of different countries and help answer the question: what needs to be done to further professionalize the sector and how to ensure the sustainability of social investments and charitable initiatives in the context of unstable economic development.

The topic of NPOs and the charitable sector is one of the areas of research of ANR-lab. It seems interesting and promising to use methods of network analysis to describe the structure of connections and interactions in this multi-layered segment.
