How we spent the summer: 13th Conference of the European Sociological Association
ANR-Lab members took part in 13th Conference of the European Sociological Association «(Un)Making Europe: Capitalism, Solidarities, Subjectivities», which took place from August 29th to September 1st in Athens, Greece.
Daria Maltseva, Senior Research Fellow, presented the talk «Social network analysis: combining quantitative methods with qualitative approach» at the session on combining methods of sociological research.
Daria Maltseva: During my speech I presented some results of our project on network analysis of biographical interviews with Soviet and Russian sociologists, which we work on with my colleagues Stas Moiseev, Timofii Brik and Anna Shirokanova. It is notable that first two colleagues also were on the presentation, and we all took part in the discussion. There were «mixed”, or even “merged” methods of research discussed at the session, and we presented our view of such mixture in network analysis. In our project, we extract the data on communication links of sociologists from interviews collected by Boris Doktorov, create ego-networks and then build whole networks out of them. In doing so, we take into account the general context of these links, their content and modality.
Research Assistant Stanislav Moiseev presented some results of his PhD research in talk «The “Rehabilitation” of the “Mass” in Social Sciences: In Search of Generalized Definition of the Concept» at the session on social theory.
Research Assistant Oxana Mikhaylova presented a talk «How it is to Be Bodypositive Woman? The Identity Construction of the Members of the “Bodypositive” Russian Social Movement» at the session «Women's Movements and Organizations»
Notably, that this year there were two “network” sessions at the conference — «Social Networks» и «New Directions in Network Analysis». Detailed information can be found at the conference web-site.
