Five members of the ANR-Lab have just successfully passed the entrance exams and are accepted for the PhD programme in Sociology at HSE. Each of them has its own story and its own path, but one thing unites them - they all came to their cherished goal. Congratulations to our colleagues!

HSE Students Take First Place in Kaggle International Data Analysis Competition
Artyom Volgin and Ekaterina Melianova, second-year students of the Master’s programme in Applied Statistics with Network Analysis, outperformed more than 100 teams from different countries to take first place in the DS4G: Environmental Insights Explorer Competition hosted by Kaggle.

MASNA students were awarded diplomas of winners of HSE student research competition - 2019
On March 4, 2020, in the Durasov’s house in the building on Pokrovsky Boulevard, an award ceremony for the winners of the HSE student research competition - 2019 was held, where Ekaterina Melianova and Kirill Lesnykh, students of the master's programme "Applied Statistics with Network Analysis", were awarded.

In 2020, the Higher School of Economics took a record positions in the QS ranking for key MASNA specializations
This year, HSE first entered the QS ranking for the subject "Statistics and operational research". In the subject "Computer Science and Information Systems", the university improved its performance and moved from the Top 250 to the Top 200. For the third year in the subject "Mathematics", HSE has retained its position in the Top-150, and in "Sociology" - in the Top-100.

Stanislav Moiseev, Junior Research Fellow at ANR-Lab, had a pre-defense of the PhD dissertation on March 10
On March 10, at a meeting of the Department of Social Institutions Analysis at the Department of Sociology of the National Research University Higher School of Economics, the pre-defense of the PhD dissertation of ANR-Lab member Stanislav Moiseev was held on the topic: “The nature and mechanisms of mass behavior: from classical sociology to modern theoretical models”.

ANR-Lab and MASNA launch data science courses from foreign professors for external students
For the first time in the three years of the Master's programme “Applied Statistics with Network Analysis Methods”, the International Laboratory for Applied Network Research opens courses taught by leading foreign experts and professors of the program to external students. Upon successful completion of the course, students are given an official HSE certificate for 4 ECTS credits. As with the entire program, the focus of the courses is on the applied aspects of data analysis. All courses start from scratch, allowing to learn specific methods even to those who are not familiar with the data analysis.

The first-year student of the MASNA master's programme won the intellectual game “What?” Where? When?” on the Channel One
The team of the first-year student of the programme “Applied Statistics with Network Analysis” Mikhail Novoselov won the final game “What? Where? When?”, which was held on December 29, 2019. Experts of the club’s youngest team won the final game of the year for the first time in 5 years.

On January 23-24, a workshop on the study of policy tools was held at the University of Melbourne, Australia. Valentina Kuskova, Head of ANR-Lab, and Dmitry Zaitsev, Leading Research Fellow, made presentation “Policy Tools and Policy Networks: Application of Social Network Analysis”.
